Welcome to Meet Market!

This show was put together to create unlikely connections and strengthen our local creative community.

How did we do it? Artists submitted detailed profiles and examples of their work, and Cuellar played matchmaker—pairing them into collaborative teams. Once partnered, the duos had six weeks to get acquainted and create new pieces inspired by the theme “Meet Market” or “Meat Market”.  Every invited pair was included in the exhibition, staying true to the spirit of the open invitation and the collaborative nature of the project. The intention of Meet Market is to exemplify the creative potential of novel connections between people.

These works contain the ideas, opinions, and stances of their makers, and evolved, in most cases, out of first-time meetings between creative thinkers of varying skill levels, backgrounds, and points of view. This can be a messy and also beautiful proposition. How can a collaborative act amplify, undermine, bolster, complicate, or harmonize the voices and creative intentions of the individual artists? How do we engage with ideas that are born from the often incongruous perspectives of people experiencing the same messy world in their own unique ways yet still find beauty, meaning and even whimsy? Meet Market highlights this.

This show is its own evolving art project and we are excited for the future connections, collaborations and conversations that will come out of it.
